New Zealand 2003 travel blog

After so much physical activity in the last week, we decided we needed a relaxing break for a few days before we headed back to Christchurch. So naturally, we headed straight for the adrenaline capital of New Zealand, Queenstown.

Queenstown has a fantastic location on the central shores of Lake Wakatipu, and has an international reputation for being the centre for all sorts of extreme activities, from jetboating, paragliding and of course, bungee jumping. We decided to resist all such nonsense and just relax, instead choosing to wander around and take in some café culture.

It was actually really nice to be back in relative civilisation. Queenstown has a lot of international shops and brands, and the whole place had a good friendly feel. Plus the sun was shining, so there was no excuse but to sit in café and drink some wine.

We popped back to our room for a little snooze and then we were out a little later for a long booked appointment at the cinema to see The Return of the King. I really liked most of the film, but like the other two, I think I need to see it again before I can fully form an opinion. It's people like me that make films break records.
