Leaving Beullton we decided to gas up--what a difference in prices! $3.23 in one station and $3.45 across the street. You can figure how long the line was. We then took the 101 (El Camino Real) to Oceano.
Oceano is the location of sand dunes 100's of feet high and extending inland several miles. So we were on the beach so to speak, just not on the water! Lacie loved the sand--what a romp she had. She continues her socializing--doing "pretty good". In Oceano we stayed at the Pacific Dunes RV park, where there was no wifi except for a hot spot at the office--we paid $4 for a snail slow connection.
On to Moss Landing and the Moss Landing RV Park. Moss Landing is located just west of Castroville, the Artichoke Capital of the World. Castroville has fond memories for us--about 30 some years ago we were traveling south from San Francisco with friends Barbara and Dan. We had planned to stay the night in Monterey, but alas, the M. Jazz Festival was on and there were no rooms for hundreds of miles. After resigning ourselves to spend the night in the car (all four of us) we stopped in Castroville at a bar/restaurant and then to look for a nice quiet street to put our heads down. Inside this establishment, we discovered it was frequented by what were back then Braseros, or legal Mexican agricultural workers. One in particular, Juan, insisted we spend the night at his house and would not take no for an answer. So...as I say, Castroville has fond memories.
