Maria Olinda in Siena, Italy --- Summer 2006 travel blog

Today we had our first Italian oral test. Pretty scary! After class we left for Napoli. Elmer, Gaby, Hana, Marisol, Elizabeth, another Gaby, Eric and I left for Napoli in train to see Pompei and the south of Italy. Riding the trains in Italy when you don't speak Italian fluently can be difficult. Eric, one of our friends, is in level four Italian so we relied on him a lot. The first train we took was very crowed but on the second one we had our own reserved seats and the air conditioning was actually working. Just to make my point about the problem of not knowing the language, here is a story. The first train we took was packed with people and we were all carrying our big back packs. We had to stand for almost two hour because the cabins with seats were first class reserved seats. Well, no one knew that was an option. The worst part was to find out half hour before the end of our trip that we actually had assigned seats. It said so on the tickets and we also found out we were on the wrong cabin. Oh, well that is how we learned. I pushed my way on an empty seat on first class. I think that I could had gotten find if they came around to check the tickets but I was willing to take the risk. Fortunately no one came around to check.
