We continued east into Hungary where we rode sunflower-lined flat roads to the small town of Bak. Eastern Europe has been going through a bit of heat wave and the temps were hot enough to make the tar on the road bubble and stick to our tires. We were putting in some long days. With the sun starting to set and no accomodation nearby, we were fortunate to run into Toni, a generous Hungarian. From the cafe where he heard us inquire about camping, we followed him to his house, showered, went out for a great feast, stopped by the local watering hole for spirits and finally back to his house to watch the final World Cup game before bed. Toni was an awesome host and did his best to comprehend our so-called German. An early morning departure gave us a full day of cycle path riding on Lake Balaton - Central Europe's largest freshwater lake. We travelled through small villages and vineyards on the north side of the lake, and took refreshing swims in Balaton.
