Mt Rushmore during day

Mt Rushmore Night

On July 3, an AF bus transported us about 30 miles from Ellsworth AFB to Mt Rushmore where we were treated to an incredible display of fireworks shot off from the top of the mountain. The crowds and traffic were huge and it rained for 3 hours before the display. When we departed Ellsworth around 2:00 p.m., its was hot and sunny. When we got to Mt Rushmore about an hour later, it was cold, wet, and windy. The sad part is we could plainly see the rain falling in the Black Hills but we neglected to take a sweater or poncho!

The display lasted about 45 minutes and it certainly ranked up there with those we had seen in DC, New Orleans, and Boston.

Other than Joe's planned fishing trip next week, we plan to stay close to home and get ready for our move to Denver on July 13. If Joe catches a lot of fish, he will post a detailed description of the adventure with plenty of exciting photographs (just kidding!).

Thanks for stopping by and leave us a message if you have time.
