After a seven hour journey, incorporating two bus rides we eventually arrived in Vilcabamba. This town had come highly recommended as a place to put your feet up and relax. That we did. We arrived, we slept, we left. Unfortunate, but as we needed to be in Cuzco, Peru by the 20th we were left with little choice. Although the hostel we stayed at had good food, a swimming pool and hammocks we had to press on and cross the border to Peru. Little did we know about the gruelling journey that lay ahead.
Although the majority of our time in Ecuador consisted of Spanish lessons in Quito and the Galapagos trip, we still feel as though we had enough time to view the country, its people and their culture. Although time was short and we`d have liked to have spent longer in certain places (Chugchilan, BaƱos and Vilcabamba) we will certainly look back on Ecuador with fond memories.
Our overall impression of the country is one of unfinished buildings, dusty, litter ridden roads and poverty. However the people, the landscape and the goat-pants more than make up for the latter. Bring on Peru.
