Big building in Montevideo's plaza

Only a short bus ride from Colonia to Montevideo. Took a taxi, whose driver thought he was in a trial for F1 racing through the streets of the city to the HI hostel.

Went for a walk to have a nosey at the main Plaza, it has the largest statue of a man on a horse that we've ever seen.

Walked to the artesian feria, which was selling the same tacky goods that we've seen at nearly all the feria's we've ever visited and which you can expect to be receiving as a present when we get back!

Found a strip of bars all playing live music so we had one too many beers there and spent the next day recovering. The good thing about Uruguay is that they have just introduced a no smoking rule in public places so our lungs were relieved at this after Argentina.

The city struck us a nice place to live with a very laid back atmosphere for a capital city. However, as far as tourism goes there wasn't a great deal that couldn't be covered in two days.
