A view from the ferry crossing

Waiting for one of the many ferry crossings

A 'Ferry' (shack with two outboard car engines attached!)

Not a bad place to stay!

Orchids growing at our hotel

The monsoon....

Tea on the beach (not quite what we imagined!)

The beach at Sihanoukville

We crossed the border from Thailand into Krong Koh Kong and were immediately greeted by a crowd of people offering to take us into town by motorbike. We declined on the basis that a) getting two people with all our luggage onto a bike would be near impossible and b) the chances of getting a helmet were non-existent and accidents are common place!

We only stayed one night in Koh Kong as there wasn't a great deal to do so headed off to the beach and some sunshine (or so we thought). The journey showed us that the state of the roads in Cambodia definitely leaves something to be desired - tarmac would be a dream! It wouldn't have taken long had it not been for the fact that no bridges have been built on the route so it was necessary to make 4 ferry crossings. We were comfortable enough in our mini bus, however, and were surprised to see that some other tourists were crammed into a taxi like sardines. Even the driver was sitting on someones lap!!

We got to Sihanoukville and found ourselves a nice place to stay on the beach and enjoyed the sunshine. The next day the rains came which meant whole streets turned into what looked like rivers or streams. We decided to eat fish and chips in a bar whilst watching the rain pour down - very reminiscent of childhood holidays in Devon!!
