Today we woke up early to travel to San Sebastian. We went to the Barcelona airport (a very nice and clean airport) and took an hour-long flight to Bilbao. Then we caught a bus to San Sebastian, which was about an hour away. The change in scenery was quite dramatic, going from the big, bustling city of Barcelona to the green, hilly, ocean-side town of San Sebastian. San Sebastian is beautiful, very peaceful and relaxing. We are all excited to have a few mellow days by the beach.
We checked into our hotel, which is right on the beach. Derek and I lucked out with a room that faces directly out the ocean and has a balcony; while my mom, unfortunately, got stuck with a single room in the middle of the hotel. Luckily our room is big enough for all of us to hang out in... so we can all enjoy the view!
We had a late lunch at a cafe overlooking the water and I was very excited when I saw nachos on the menu, as I am craving mexican food big time. You would have loved to see the sad look on my face when the nachos came... what was I thinking? These nachos were worse than what you would get at a 7-11. I was hoping for cheddar cheese, beans, guacamole, sour cream, salsa... no such luck. These had the fake, processed cheese and a very small scoop of chili. Oh well, I will have my mexican in the US soon enough.
After lunch, we strolled along the promenade that goes along the water, Playa de La Concha, and then over to the neighboring bay, Playa de la Zurriola. We stopped often to watch locals fishing for dinner, and numerous surfers catching waves. San Sebastian is a very clean city, compared to Barcelona... and we don´t have to dodge dog poop on the streets like we did in Barcelona, Nice, and Paris. haha.
Tonight we decided to be mellow... we drank the wine we bought in Provence on our balcony and ordered pizza from the restaurant in out hotel.
