I went to bed last night feeling sure that I would be awakened by security in the middle of the night. I knew that I shouldn't be parked here, but was just too tired to do anything else. I slept right through to 5:00 when I was awakened by the sound of the parking lot sweeper. One can hardly complain!
I knew that my bicycle ride was to start nearby, but I had no Internet access to get the actual address. Planning is not my middle name. After calling my son (Chris) to get the information, I made the long and tedious journey (about 12 miles) to the small town of Sutter where the bike ride was to start the following morning. My Co-Pilot gave me some bad information along the way, but knowing where I was going, I was able to ignore her.
I parked the Bus in a parking lot across the street from the local high school. Did I mention the toilet is not working? Well, I worked in vain for several hours trying to get it to work. It looks like I will be without a toilet for the net week or so. Nancy will love this!
At lunch time, a trailer pulled in to sell pizza to the high school kids. I walked to over to say hello and ended up buying pizza for lunch. It is normally against my rules to eat anywhere that has "Fat" in the name...but the Pizza from Fat Joe's was quite good.
About 4:30 I started cleaning and preparing my bicycle for tomorrow's ride and found that I had left the valve extenders at home. These extenders are a 99 cent part, but necessary to add air to my tires. I had to drive into Yuba City to buy the extenders. When I returned an hour later the Bus was surrounded by cars, several angry parents and the police. It seems there was a little league game about to start in a few minutes and the Bus was taking up much of the parking. I apologized profusely and moved the Bus across the street to the school parking lot (with police permission). After parking the Bus I walked back over, watched some of the game and talked to some of the parents.
All considered, it was a good day.
Happy Travels,
