A stop at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise

An animal licking the salt off the tire

Here we are in beautiful Lake Louise(pictures to follow in the future) spending the last two days and the next two days enjoying springtime skiing in the Canadian Rockies. This stop coincidentally matched the time for the children to take their 7th of 8 sets of tests for Calvert so we made a deal with them that we would stay here for 5 nights and ski during the day and have them study in the evening and complete their tests while here.

Each day skiing has been open from 9am-4pm. The first day (sunday) the slopes were busier than is the last week of skiing here and most tourists have come and gone. Out on the slopes this morning gave us the feeling of the resort.

More skiers arrived after lunch

The scenery is gorgeous; the terrain is beautiful and the snow varies from ice to slush with an occasional rock showing through the snow. however if you time your runs right as the ice melts into corn snow, it is gorgeous. Of course our first run down this morning was hard crusted groomed trails...kind of like skiing on corregated cardboard, but then several hours later the same run was gorgeous and smooth.

Each day we have ventured up the Poma platter lift to the very top..First day up Solomon fell off part way up and held on for a while. Today it was Sophia's turn but when she fell she let go and recovered.

We have tried a variety of runs: J.R. Solomon and Aaron prefer the Black Diamond Moguls, Sophia goes between those and blue runs cheerfully,. and Mary just doesn;t like the steep Moguls...other than that, it has been great skiing and very warm.
