A beautiful road

The Columbia Icefields

Set out this morning from Grand Cache...had a beautiful drive into Jasper national Park. (about 2 hours); thought at first we might spend a night or two at Jasper then go onto Banff however after talking with a few people and learning about the ski options and being late in the season, we drove into Jasper( town) had a picnic lunch at the city square then started on the road that leads from Jasper to Banff...it was a picture perfect day..we stopped at Athabasca Falls and took a hike, at the Columbia Icefields Visitor Center then found ourselves in Lake Louise by 6pm...looked at options for lodging and settled on a one bedroom condo complete with Murphy Bed...the 2nd time we have encountered one...a bed that drops down from the wall at night.

Lake Louise is a beautiful setting...rugged Rocky Mtns..and because the ski resort is in a National Park the only lodging is in the village and therefore no slopeside condos, base hotels etc.
