The road into Grande Cache

The town of Grande Cacge from our window

Had a busy morning at the hotel with kids catching up on their technology before checking out. I went off to the grocery store to restock our supplies and get diesel. When checking out at the store our credit card was declined. It was only a matter of a few phone calls (to our Credit Card Company and their travel division) to get things straightened out...kind of a hassle however nice to know that someone is looking out over our credit card and suspicious of activity in a foreign country.

Headed down the road with a plan to drive less miles/kilometers today.( Drove less than 300 miles today) We drove through rain and rain mixed with snow from Ft. St. John into Dawson Creek where the Alcan highway

officially began(Mile 0); after a stop at the visitor center to check road conditions we took the road less travelled which dropped the traffic significantly, except for the heavy logging trucks heading to and from Grande Cache

Arrived into this coal mining community...a planned town established in 1969, 12 miles south of the mine. According to our book the coal mine had shut down in the year 2000 however we arrived to find somewhat of a boom town as the mine re-opened 4 years ago and it is a thriving community. Found a nice 2 bedroom suite to stay at for the evening...brand new with beautiful views of the mountains.
