April 13 - Trish and Alan come today! We hopped in the car to stock up with groceries and I noticed the ride was a bit lumpy. Did we have a flat tire? Mike went to look. No, no flat, but we had worn an 8" patch on all four tires right down through the tread to absolutely polished smooth. Oh oh. Not what we hoped to see! We lumped and bumped into town and Mike called around to locate new tires while I did the groceries, and then we lumped and bumped back. While I did some cooking and got ready for Trish and Alan, Mike went in and got the car taken care of. The Brake Pro company thought it could possibly be a fault in their product and promised to send a replacement immediately to Tricia's address. Hopefully it will arrive in time for us to pick it up!
We cycled along one of the park's trails, under a canopy of live oaks and palms, passing by an old abandoned still to a lookout over the marsh to the ICW where we had passed 3 years ago on our way south on Some Goode.
Then we drove off towards Tybee Island to Thunderbolt, a fishing village dating back to the founding of Georgia. One of the main attractions (if it can be called that) is the 300+ acre Bonaventure Cemetery. It is a beautiful place where many very old and ornate monuments mark the resting places of some of Savanna's most prominent citizens. We found the plot where the prolific songwriter Johnny Mercer is buried.
Back at the park we had supper and waited for Trish and Alan. It was so good to see them! We talked until midnight!
