We spent another day in Jianshu, three days in all, and saw the largest Confucius temple out side of his home town.
Last night we went out to dinner, and had great Chinese food in a private room, using our book to order, as the menu had no English. Lovely food, sort of like what we get at home, which is not what we have been eating at al. Most of the food has been completely different to normal Chinese food, as there is a large Muslim population and the food is influenced by the middle east in Yunnan.
Afterwards we went to a cultural show consisting of a tea ceremony, singing and dancing. The traditional costumes were very bright and beautiful.
This morning we got up and caught a bus to Kunming, as usual we waiting only about 15 minutes fr the next one.
Now we are in Kunming, the capital of the province.
We went to Happy Fish, an all you can eat restaurant in the guidebook, which took some finding as there were only vague directions, and we had to try to pronounce the Chinese name to ask directions.
We could not get a cab so we caught the local bus, luckily there was someone at the hotel with a little English that could tell us which one.
So it cost about $3 for steamboat and millions of choices of food, and unlimited beer!
Afterwards Kate, Dan and I went for a walk down a side alley where there looked like there were some market stalls. We realised that they actually went on for miles.
I bought a handbag nade of beautiful dark purple leather for $35. I look forward to chucking my old broken bag out and using the new one.
Kate bought a cute watch with a leather strap.
At a shoe shop Kate tried on shoes while they laughed at mine and Kate's feet.
Belinda earlier bought a pair of knickerbocker thingys with diamontes on them.
Tomoorow we catch an 8 hour train to Dali, a major tourist destination in China, which is a historic and pretty town, we hope.
