Arrived at Playa del Carmen early Monday afternoon. Its so touristy and though I hate to admit it, it was great to wander around shops again for a while (although I'm not sure Donal was as pleased!). Beyond that there isnt a huge amount to do here, it's a typical tourist resort with restaurants, bars, souveneir shops (even heard one guy claiming he had "more junk for less money"!)and fabulous large hotels that we are too shabby to even enter the foyer of! The beach here is beautiful though a little crowded, very different from Tulum. Its an expensive place comparable with and probably even more expensive than most European resorts. Because of this we couldn't afford to stay too long. We spent our couple of days shopping (mostly window) and at the beach. One great thing about Playa del Carmen was the ALux bar. A short walk at the other side of town is this bar in a cave. It is an actual real cave complete with stalagmites, stalagtites, water pools. Its full of candles, sofas and atmosphereic music. It even has oxygen pumped to compensate for the lack of air.
So that was it for Playa del carmen. We took a bus to Cancun today and will base ourselves around here for Easter. Hope you all have a great Easter and enjoy your easter eggs because we wont have any! Boo hoo.
