Nixes On Tour travel blog

Up early and after a drive down the main road through Lake Grace, we've pretty much seen the town, so we continue to head North West towards Albany. The landscape is pretty much the same as yesterday - endless, flat wheatfields - until we sight the Stirling Ranges, rearing suddenly up out of the flat land. It's long and jagged and an impressive sight. We drive up and do a short walk to check out the view.

Reach Albany by lunch and have a drive around. It's a nice enough town, but we've heard such good things about Denmark and it's so windy today that we have some lunch, drive around and then head west.

Despite our best intentions to set up camp by 4pm each day, we end up in Denmark , as usual, in the late arvo. There's a couple of caravan parks near town, or bush camping, but that's another 30 odd kms out of town, so we decide instead to eat an icecream, check out the tourist centre for info and postpone any decision making.

Denmark is a beautiful little village centred around green banks leading down to the river, with fantastic beaches only kms out of town. It's also surrounded by wineries and forest. You can imagine it being inundated in the near future by sea-changers, although it's probably still far enough away from Perth to keep it safe.

We spot a pizza shop as we wander through town - it's been a long, long time since we've had pizza so that makes the decision to stay in a caravan park and not trek out to find a bush camp easy. Unfortunately, it's a Monday and this is a small town, so the pizza shop is closed. Desperate measures are needed so of course we repair to the pub to weigh up options. Have a lovely chat with a couple of the locals, end up having dinner in the pub, and checking into a tiny caravan park on the river bank for the night.
