Happy Aprils Fools!

I realized that I haven't wrote about Zanzibar which is truly a shame. It is the most beautiful country, and the most humid and hot weather I have ever experienced. The food was unbelievable, or rather believable since it is also called the Spice Island. Went on a spice tour that also did a tour of the slave caves which were utterly shocking and horrific. The spice tour itself was wonferdul, we were able to sample the spices as well as a bunch of different fruits, some of which I never knew existed, and I will never be the same knowing that I can't buy them in Canada. And don't worry Dad, I bought many spices, let just hope they let me bring it back with me. I also had the chance to go snorkeling which has so far been the most beautiful and amazing corals and fish life I have seen. Many people didn't make it due to a late night of drinking, but I am so glad that I went. I did a half day trip which included three different locations to snorkel, plus a plate full of fresh pineapple, bananas, and watermelon. The fruit alone was worth the $10 US.

I'm currently in Maun, Botswana although only until tomorrow where we head to Namibia. I just returned from a 3 day excursion to the Okavango Delta which is a little paradise. We were "poled" in mokoros (small dug-out canoes that are seriously poled from place to place) to a tiny island in the Delta for two nights. We went on an evening game walk and then again woke up early the next morning to do a game walk, but because of the unusually rainy season they have been having the grass was too long to see any of the big game. We did spot some zebras and some elephants, but unfortunately no hippos, lions, or leopards. The rest of the afternoon was spent swimming ( no sign of hippos or crocs) and attempting to pole our own mokoros which proved to be very difficult to steer. We had an eveing mokoro cruise to an elephant tusk site and the otion of going on another game walk early this morning. Last night was one of great music; every single person singed or hummed one song or another. There was an exchange of music; our guides would all sing together a few songs then we would do the same thing. Their music I can say sounded much better than anything we could produce. Although Brian (the Irishman) did bring his tin whistle which he played beautifully.

Thank you for all the wonderful emails, and I can't wait to see you all soon. take care, love

Becky
