| The Winter Olympics were held in Turino, Italy (northern italy) and I had bought tickets last year (while still in Canada) to see the Canadian men's hockey team play Finland and the women's hockey gold medal final. The men's game wasn't great. They played absolutley terrible. It was a cold and wet day and Pete and I had been out walking all day and were soaked and the hockey rink was freezing (not like the NHL rinks back home). But, still quite thrilling to see an olympic hockey game. We also went to see the women's hockey gold medal final game. Thank goodness that the Canadians were in the final - especially after the upset of the Americans being relegated to play in the bronze medal game. So, it was Canada against Sweden for the gold. The atmosphere at the game was electric and Canada played like you'd expect them to. The game was great and it is such a proud experience to see your country win an olympic gold medal. They also presented all 3 medals on the ice right after the game. The city of Turino was okay. We didn't do too much sightseeing and picture taking as it was really cold and very wet (snow and rain). We were having real trouble finding accomodation, so we decided to 'couchsurf' and that turned out okay - much to our relief. I would definitely recommend to all of you to snap up tickets for the Vancouver 2010 olympics - it's a fantastic experience! |
