We got wild and got out there - deep into the magnificent mountains, remote lochs and glens to experience the fascinating history and culture of the Scottish countryside. We went on a fantastic action-packed three days in the Highlands and Isle of Skye exploring Loch Ness, Glencoe and the West Coast. We stood on the battlements of timeless castles, imagined ourselves charging barefoot across ancient battlefields and brought a colourful past to life. There is a lot more to Scotland than kilts and shortbread, and by the time we finished our Skye High tour, we were already planning our next adventure!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This past weekend was our first visit to the Highlands of Scotland. In terms of geography, visualize Scotland being broken into 3 horizontal regions. In the middle area, the two main cities Glasgow and Edinburgh are on the West (left) side and East coast (right) respectively. Hence, the Midlands - see map (will show our end destination but not the route we took). Further South, closer to Britain is the region referred to as the Borders. And above or North of the mids are the Highlands.

As you can guess, the Highlands are characterized by more hilly and, ahem, mountainous terrain (by Scottish standards). We took a bus tour and learned about this land mass that is rich with great scenery, history, ambiance, majesty and the stuff of legends. Although it was a whirlwind tour, we digested as much of the historical details, local folk tales and even some of the rubbish that the driver guide shared with us. Here are a select few of the many, many photos taken on this tour.
