Baja 250 Crowd Gathering (Reminds us of boat night)

And it Was Only Rolled Three Times

Hello dudes and dudettes. We have to take a break in our trip to report happenings in San Felipe. Little did we know when we arrived we would be in the middle of The Baja 250 race crazies. So we have to tell you about the race. Our caravan left last Sunday and we checked into a little camp ground north of town.

We knew by then the racers were coming but we had an added surprise. The Baja 250 is an off road desert race starting and ending in San Felipe. In our little campground by the sea we were joined by a team of racers from California. Their names are Dave and Michelle. They educated us on the race and happenings so we felt really IN THE KNOW! However they were not IN THE KNOW about RVing since their trip was their maiden voyage. K and D helped them with their dumping, G helped with the awning and the dogs thought their rig was a new playground since the back opened up completely.

Friday, the day before the race, the town went nutty. Never have we seen so much beer consumed in one spot. Was very much like boat night in PH but you could drink on the street and the t-shirts were cheaper.

Back in camp we tried to help our new friends get ready( there was no end to what they needed down to a can opener for their dinner)

One more thing they needed was a chase team because their's had decided not to come. Well we just could not let Michelle go alone. Jessie, Scoobie, Gary and Katho became the new pit, chase crew in their Jeep. (Katho was not wild about this)

The plan was to meet up with Dave at pit #3 and fuel him up then go to the finish line. Well at pit #3 our friend Dave was gaining and he didn't take the time to get all his fuel. So we had to go to pit#5 . He refused fuel at pit 5 because he was gaining still and about in 5th place. So his crew decided to head for the finish...not so fast. Like most men Dave wasn't thinking or listening and he ran out of gas. Gary hopped in Michelle's truck to bumpy, bump out into the desert, onto the race track to refuel Dave. Katho and the dogs had had enough so they went back to camp.

Gary and Michelle successfully refueled Dave who took off but they were stuck, ON THE RACE TRACK. Well, they dug and rocked and dug and rocked and after one hour made their way out. Not before Dave made it back to camp to tell Katho to get in her car with him and head out to the desert to save them. Katho ran to tell Dave and Kristine what was happening and they said DON'T GO. Katho gladly agreed gave the other Dave her car and her Mexican Insurance and said, "Go get them."

It was getting dark and we were worried about them in the desert. Well thank goodness they met on the road and all arrived home safe and sound. Gary loved his experience as a pit crewer, Katho has decided it is not the life for her and the dogs don't care as long as they are in a car.

Today we all have a race hangover and we are waiting for all this testosterine to pull out of town.

Next posting we will continue with our caravaning adventures.
