Ko Phi Phi is actually two islands, Ko Phi Phi Don and Ko Phi Phi Ley. Ko Phi Phi Ley is uninhabited mainly because it is limestone rock that rises vertically from the ocean to heights of 30 metres on all sides apart from a 50 metre wide section that is the reason the island has become famous around the world. This is the beautiful Maya Beach, which was a setting in the film 'The Beach'

Anyway accommodation is on the larger of the two islands, Ko Phi Phi Don, which was Thailand's 2nd worst affected area of the Tsunami, but 14 months on a lot of hotels are fully open, which is lucky as it was very busy. Phi Phi is more expensive that the rest of Thailand, we ended up paying 50% more than normal and that wasn't even on the beach or with a view of the beach. The beaches we not as nice as expected and after a days diving we realised the visibility wasn't as good here so decided to move on again.
