Following the Maya Ruins by Train travel blog

We're on our way to the Yucatan and the Mayan ruins. This was really a day of traveling but there are a few things worth mentioning. I had never flown on Continental Airlines before and it was certainly a pleasant surprise. We left shortly before lunch so we had bought a sandwich and fruit to share. Imagine our surprise when a snack lunch was served at no charge. That hadn't happened in a long while. Not only that but both flights; Chicago to Houston and Houston to Villahermosa left and arrived on time!!

The Continental terminal was under 'construction siege' but we managed to check-in and get around easily at both airports. During the Houston layover I went on a hunt for a panorama disposable camera. Thought it would be an easy task but it took a bit of 'training' between terminal areas to find a shop that had one. In thinking about the ruins I should have gotten one sooner but at least I was now ready for all the eye-candy I was sure was ahead during the next week.

When we landed at about 8:30 p.m. in Villahermosa we were the only plane in sight. A driver from the Cencali Hotel was there to take us to town and dinner at the hotel. One other person from our tour also was on the flight and Dave joined for the ride. Our driver drove slowly and tried to provide a guided tour when all we wanted was to check in and have a bite of dinner. The interior of the lobby had several murals that provided a Mexican background for our arrival.

We finally arrived, met Susy, checked in and joined the other members of our group. Some had gone to bed, but those that remained to visit with us were indicative of the kind of wonderful group of 12 travelers thiswould turn out to be.
