We decided to play tourist for the month of January in Florida. We wanted to see a different part of Florida, so we headed south and west. We spent a week in Clewiston, which is on the lower west side of Lake Okechobee. Lee got some stained glass made, I got in some "line dancing" and we both got in a lot of walking and resting. The weather was beautiful so it was a very enjoyable week.

For the next week we went a litle north in Florida and took in Wachulla, Brandenton, went to the beach on the gulf coast and in general relaxed.

The last two weeks we went to Pahokee, FL, which is on the lower east side of Lake Okechobee. We went there to help the pastor with hurricane relief. Pahokee was hit very hard with Hurricane Wilma, which was five months ago. Probably 65% of the houses still have blue tarps on their roofs. It is a poor area, mostly agriculture, and they don't have the means to fix up their homes. Lee helped the Pastor roof a ladies house, cut up trees that had blown over, and in general became a handyman for the Pastor.

Pastor Danny helped feed 2500 people a day shortly after the hurricane. He kept that up until Thanksgiving, when he fed 800 people a big Thanksgiving dinner to top it all off.

There is such a need in Pahokee....I'm sure we will go back. The people were wonderful, so grateful and so in need.

It's the first of February now and we are back in Vero Beach for the time being. Rob and Tammy are coming down on the 20th so we will play tourist with them and show them a lot of Florida...maybe even a day trip to the Bahamas!
