Ayathaya is home to many impressive ruins but as we only had one night here we chose to wait until dark to visit the two sights that are illuminated to take on an even more impressive other-worldliness. The two sights were 14th century Wat Phra Mahathat one of the first built in the capital and Wat Ratburana. Visiting ruins at night is definately recommended, they seem more atmospheric somehow and flaws are less noticable rendering the overall sight far more impressive.
