| The Warrambungles are an amazing set of rock formations, well mountains really, an easy 30 odd km drive from Coonabarabran. It's a beautiful drive in as they rear up out of flat land in some kind of prehistoric way. Check out Stu's photos. There are some amazing walks to do in the park, but we take the easy option of a two hour walk to Fan Lookout, which has an amazing view of the longer High Tops walk we plan to do the next day. Camp is set up in the afternoon right under the shadow of Split Rock. Everyone else has left and we're sharing the campsite only with emus and wallabies and a swarm of flies. Lovely relaxing arvo with a bit of hammocking, backgammon and frisbee, then build an open fire to cook dinner on and drink red wine next to. We sit up giggling by the campfire till the early hours before hitting the tent. Lucky there are no neighbours about. Unfortunately the next morning we're a bit on the shabby side and by the time we pack up camp it's nearly midday and waaay too hot to take on a five hour walk. We wimp out and head towards Dubbo. |
