Day 8 of our overland tour. We only had a short drive today, thank goodness! We left Swakopmund to head to a sacred area where the Bushmen painted on the granite rocks of the Spitzkoppe mountain region. These unique rock formations stood out against the brilliantly blue sky. We climbed to the top of one of the rock cliffs to enjoy another sundown with our bottle of wine, brie cheese and crackers. The camp here was simple - just stretches of dry grass on gravel - no running water, facilities, toilets or showers. It was a true "bushcamp". We enjoyed our Christmas dinner here. Charlotte, our cook, managed to whip up lobster, mussels, smoked pike, and salad. Amazing what can be cooked up outdoors with a simple fire! We taught our tour group the rules to the White Elephant Gift Exchange. Apparently it was not a well-known game to anyone. Many interesting gifts were in this year's pile - from whoopee cushions, water guns, to used massage oil, and the raggedy dirty clown that Mark bought. Interestingly enough, Mark's clown was the coveted prize, and has become a part of our "family."
