Ken and Reeganne do INDIA 2005-2006 travel blog

So having felt a little guilty about not taking in the sites in Jaisalmer, we figured we would race the sun and try to visit one of the most impenetrable forts in Northern India.

I should add that I was still a little disgruntled having not seen a single stitch of Blue anywhere in the famed Blue City.

Our driver - lost again - drove us aimlessly around town in search of the almost undetectable entrance to the fort ... still no blue. But as we stepped out of the car and took in our first views of the entire city - there it was. The insides of almost all of the homes within view are painted bright blue - for various reasons now, religion and bugs being the main ones, but still just an beautiful and unreal site.

This was also the most well organized tourist destinations - the fort was clean, well preserved and had an audio tour - they ensured that we were not to again fall victim to a guide who might choose to make up his facts because he forgot his points or maybe just thought that it was funny. This is also where we were approached for the first time to get hooked up with a little Opium if we so desired..... we didn't and the fort guard proceeded off to entice another young tourist couple.

We also met with a famed astrologer here who did our charts and read our palms. He told me that I am a little anxious at times, like to think things over... and over again before making a decision and that I am very social....do you think that he knew what he was talking about? He also told me that I could potentially have 2 children .. but that I had not yet made up my mind if that was to be the route that I would chose.

He said Ken likes Chips and Dip and that ... just joking. He was incredibly accurate about many aspects of our lives and personalities and also gave us a few tips on the future as well.

We then proceeded to make our purchases that we had put off from the last visit. I forgot to mention that after our desert trek we bought a camel saddle.

Here in Jodhpur, next door to the store that HomeSense shops at we purchased an almost 200 year old Temple Door that should arrive just after we get home. Its amazing with a great deal of the original paint and hardware still intact. We are still not sure what we are going to do with it - but believe it or not - it was a must have. We also bought an old grain bin which will become a seat and we had curtains made for the bedroom from hand embroidered raw silk.

The next morning we threw off our layers of blankets, packed our bags, had our last cold shower and said good-bye to Rajasthan - we were catching an Indian flight (typically an hour late) back to Mumbai and then heading south to Goa for a little fun in the sun!!!!
