Well, things aren't working out for me with this show. The last thing I wanted to do was to come down here and struggle to stay alive without a drop of free time to explore the Mayan world (and that is exactly what is happeing). So I have decided to leave the show and backpack around on my own for a couple of weeks.
Today I woke up early and took a taxi into downtown Cancun. I purchased a bus ticket to Chichen Itza for tomorrow ($8US for a three hour ride). I had been trying to figure out what I was going to do with my luggage. I came down here with two sizeable suitcases, expecting to stay in a resort for two months. After getting a bus ticket I walked around the corner and found a place selling the perfect backpack for my journey. I got it for $399 pesos (about $40US). I figure I can pack things in that and leave my luggage in a friend/coworkers room to pick up at the end of my journey.
I have to work today at 4pm, to do some easy stuff, then I head out at 1pm tomorrow. I think I'll go jump in the beautiful warm blue ocean until I have to work.
So while it is sad that I have to leave this show, it is great and exciting to feel like a real adventurer trecking around Central America and the Mayan ruins. What an exciting travel journal this will turn out to be. Stay tuned!
