Aguas Calientes & Putukusi
Dec 14, 2005
|What could top yesterday. I had a pretty good answer. A walk, actually a bloody hard climb up a mountain which overlooks Machu Picchu. I went on this one alone while Anna found plenty of schoolchildren to talk to in the plaza. I returned a few hours later a few pounds lighter and with more great views on the camera and in my memory.
When I reached the top of Putukusi I sat down and wrote this.
Might sound a bit corny but it sums up my feelings exactly.

Overlooking Machu Picchu
Wed 14th ecember 2005 12.08pm
In a scorching sun I am sat overlooking what must be a wonder of the world Machu Picchu. There are only two of us, myself & an Argentinian perched on a protruding rock with the gloriuos site of MP in the foreground. From here we can see to the left Intipunku with the Inca Trail heading south to the citadel, while to the right is the imposing Huayna Picchu nestled in a thin cloud of mist. Could there be a greater place to be right now than looking at and contemplating the fantastic city of MP. I think not!
For years I have envisaged what the great Inca settlement would be like. I have read books, stared at pictures and watched documentaries on television but having Machu Picchu in front of me now is a like a dream that has been waiting to happen.
I will never forget my time here. My dream has come true.
