The train station at Nafplio is one of special note. It hosts a spotless platform and a set of tracks, at the end of which is an old fashioned train car with curtains and a little sign for the ticket window (which I never saw open). Given this lovely arrangement, with permanent cement blocks in front of the train car ticket window, it should come as no suprise that the train doesn`t actually run to Napflio.. but those intending to travel by train to or from Napflio can board a bus which runs to a neighboring train station 15 minutes away.
Fortunately this, and the fact that it is low season, meant there were very few tourists in town. So we spent a lovely day meandering along the coast line (where there were people out for a swim!) and through the narrow streets.. and even took a hike to the fortress that towers above town to enjoy the panoramic views of the neighboring islands and coast.
