Prague Pub Tour - meet 6pm at the clock

Day 37 Friday 6 September "Kutna Hora & Bars"

Czech Republic - Prague / Praha

Up before 9 cos thats when breakfast ends! It was a very basic roll with some cheese. I was feeling lazy but made the effort to get out the hostel and to the nearby station for a train to Brno at 10.15.

10.15 to Brno. That station and its timetables are so complicated. I used my Thomas Cook rail timetable for the first time properly too. Its always best to check the final destination. Im glad I did this trip on my own tho.

Kutna Hora A very picturesque town 1½ hours by train out from Prague. Theres 3 minor stations in the town so I followed some Japanese and went straight to the main town - the Bone Church 3km away from the town centre so I had to leave enough time to see that. Went straight to Tourist Information and got a map which listed about 8 sites in the centre - so I proceeded to visit them all. First the St Barbaras Cathedral, nice & pointy, on the way I stumbled across a film crew. I thought the people looked really poor - they were all in period costume with an old car too. It was an Italian show. Onwards to Cathedral. The town is set on a hill - fortified over a lovely valley and the place made its money through silver mining in St Wenceslas's time. Looked in Cathedral, saw stone fountain, an old church to John Nepomuk - hes on Charles Bridge too and always has stars round his head. Theres a museum in the town but I didnt go cos it warned of claustrophobia in the actual medieval mines. I went to a Burghers house (Merchant) and got followed round every room. Then another museum where a rude girl said I had to go on a tour - I threw shade and said I dont have the time. Before leaving the town I went to an Alchemy museum in the TIC. It was underground so was very cool.

Bone Church. Now I was in a rush. It was 3 and my train to Prague was 4.20. I checked out buses - next one 3.45 arriving at station at 4.10 so no good. In the end I ran 3km to spend 10minutes at the church. Paid to video it but couldnt really get into the atmosphere. So many bones there, like paper chains, and a massive chandelier in the middle. Train Back I got train back - cut it very fine cos got a bit lost. Arrived in Prague at 5.45pm then walked to the Astronomical clock for 6 and joined the Pub Tour. It was the same guy as last nights ghost tour and the stories were similar but it was more of a social thing. So it was Peter the guide, a very fit Ozzy/Czech who was into surfing and Techno, and a couple from the UK, Jeremy & Amy. We went to 3 pubs. Beer was paid for, one was the hangman pub and finally we ended up having food. I tried Wild Boar. The girl went round the table asking about girlfriends - so I had to say Im gay and split up after 10 years. I was a bit insecure with the Aussie even though he spoke Czech. He seemed very confident. Afterwards we ended the evening with a Jazz Bar and a blonde Jarvis Cocker type was serving in there. I had an Absinthe and it blew my head off. We swapped emails then I came back here.
