Hi Folks:
We thought we would touch base again to let you know we are still on the road. We have left Williamsburg and are presently in Charleston, South Carolina.
The weather has been damp since we arrived but in the low 70 degrees. Tomorrow is to be 65 degrees but sunny again. Doesn't matter what the weather we always seem to find a historical site to visit.
We found Virginia interesting and is not only famous for its history but also Virginian ham, bacon, peanuts and tobacco. We did sample some Virginian chocolate covered peanuts.
The pictures we are attaching are mainly of Old Williamsburg which is like our Upper Canada Village. The staff dress in period customes and provide the history of Williamsburg. We also visited Jameston where the first British colonists landed and set up the first permanent settlement. We have decided we wouldn't have made very good colonists after listening to the hardships they endured. We toured Yorktown where the battle that ended the American Revolution was fought.
The one thing that we have learned for sure is that America has always gone from one conflict to another, from one war to another and this week we are learning about their war with each other. It never seems to stop.
Don't want to bore you with more details,so we hope everyone is doing well.Take care and stay in touch. Jim & Marlene
