Rolling from Reims to Rome

Tom travel blog
Welcome to Tom Buckle's 2018 trip journal of cycling a 1600km section of the Francigena Pilgrimage route from Canterbury England to the Vatican.

We chose to start in Reims France on 25 August, heading south-west over the Jura hills into Switzerland, then over the Alps into Italy, with the ultimate aim of taking afternoon tea with the Pontiff on 23 September.

All agreed it is definitely NOT a race, but if I'm the first to shake the Pontiff's hand in Rome, Ill chalk it up as a WIN.

There are 27 days of riding and 3 rest days along the way. Each day we cover quite modest distances (never more than 100km) at a leisurely pace, so there is plenty of time to imbibe the local atmosphere.

I will update the journal every day or two and you will receive an email when that happens.

Order: oldest at top ( reverse )
