Louie & Marianne's trip across the country |

Welcome to my trip journal! I have decided to keep a trip journal for Louie & my first trip in our new Class A, 25ft RV. We are taking a huge plunge and traveling across the country from our home in rural Okeechobee, FL to my sisters home in Sandpoint Idaho. Accompanying us will be our two min pins - Stella & Lola, and our one old ( 14 yrs!) Bull terrier - Tyra. Are we brave or what????
I have done tons of planning and we plan to stay off the interstates and get a glimpse of rural america. To try and find the most scenic roads I have even driven the trip on google maps at the ground level...which is a great way to get an idea of what the surrounding country looks like and the condition of the roads you will be traveling.
We have only made reservations in Rapid City SD ( due to the Motorcycle Rally at Sturgis) and we plan on just stopping whenever & whereever we choose. For me, a bit of a planning freak, this wasn't the easiest decision to make, but now that I have grown accustomed to it, I am looking forward to not being on a schedule.
We leave a week from today and I am already getting super excited and can't wait to hit the road! We've done all the maintainence on the vehcile and all that's left is packing and setting off. We've got all our "Drive Ins, Diners & Dives books, Travel Books, State and County Guides, Park Guides and every other travel book you can think of and we are ready to go!
We plan on leaving on Saturday morning the 30th of July and making out way across the country to Sandpoint. We plan on taking about 10 days to reach Sandpoint and will be making stops in Kansas City - gotta try the ribs!, then on the the Badlands, Black Hills, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Hot Springs, and other sites in the Rapid City area. After that it's off the the Big Horns in Wyoming, then Montana....just going to wing it there and see what ever comes along, then on to Sandpoint.
We will spend 10 days or so in Sandpoint ( Sandpoint Id may be my favorite town, loved it last summer, very "earthy crunchy"!!) and then we will push off down to Utah and visit Bryce, Moab, The Arches and all the parks we can fit in in SE Utah. We most likely will camp in Moab but are not sure of that yet.
From there it's off to Colorado staying to the south section and seeing Masa Verde, La Plata Mtns, Durango, and what ever else turns up on RT. 160 heading east. Then through southern Kansas and home.
I will be updating the journal with photos and tales of our adventures as we travel. God only knows what trouble me and the dogs will get into along the way...should be good for a few laughs...good old Calamity Jane...that's me!
