George's 55th Reunion |
|
Welcome to my trip journal!
This is the travel log of George & Gracie Martin (Majah & Madame) and here we are again, traveling East, this time to attend the 55th anniversary of my graduation from the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.
This time however, we will be traveling cross country courtesy of AmTrak. Joining us on the train are Gracie's daughter, Allison Valerio along with her husband Maurizio and daughter Nini.
Our route of travel takes us to Chicago in about 2-1/2 days, then another 1/2 day Chicago to Washington,
D. C.
We plan on spending about five days seeing the sights of our nation's capitol. I, having spent 3 years in grade school and my senior year in high school there, will skip the tourist business and visit the National Archives, Naval Heritage Command and Library of Congress researching the Civil War.
Joining us in D. C. will be Marco Valerio who will arrive from Berlin, Germany where he has spent the summer rehearsing for a supporting roll in an Opera to be performed mid-September.
We will arrive in Annapolis on Wednesday where we will be further joined by my daughter Juliet Russell and her husband Jim along with granddaughter Sophie Rossoni.
Our reunion will consist of a memorial service in the Academy Chapel, the weekly dress Parade, a grand banquet Friday night, and end Saturday with the Navy - Georgia Southern football game.
Sunday, we'll be departing, Marco back to Berlin, Juliet, et al, flying back to San Francisco, and the rest of us boarding the return train in D. C.
We shall be returning Wednesday morning, just in time to prepare for our Highlander's Golfers last pot-luck of the season on Thursday.
