America through the Windshield--Getting to Know the First Americans |

E=2>Welcome to our place on the world wide web. In July 2011, we (Brenda and Greg) began our retirement adventures. After years of planning, organizing and preparing for our retirement, the moment of our departure had finally arrived. We loaded the remainder of our belongings amd our trusty dogs, Andy and Heidy, then hit the road in a 2004 Holiday s Rambler Navigator towing a silver Suzuki SX4 car (our dinghy).
We left Baltimore and 30 years of our lives as we pulled away from our Rodgers Forge home. We had reservations in Natural Bridge, Virginia and Asheville, North Carolina for the first three weeks. After that we had no plans except to see as much of our great country as possible. This trip journal will be our record, our way to communicate the joys of traveling and learning to live in our new home, an RV.
We plan to visit as much of America as possible. We are extremely interested in the pre-Columbian Indians of America. Over the past 15 years, we have spent many summers exploring these amazing people espcially the mound builders. Much of this journal will focus on the stories of these great people and their amazing contributions to our lives and the culture of our country. As we travel to these sites, we are reminded everyday of the tragic loss of the scientific, cultural, political, artistic and numerous other contributions of the people that have been given many names. In our journal we will use the name given to the natives of America upon Columbus' landing in America in 1492. Indian will be used as a term that shows the great respect that we have for the people and their great civilizations.
