Our Germany Trip |
|
We have made the detour!! Our trip to “Deutschland” (that is Germany for all you Norwegians) was great. For myself, it even felt like returning to my “roots”. After finding an “ancestral” connection in Wittenberg, that feeling was intensified. This was a great time of the year to be in Germany, with the advent of spring, all was so clean and fresh. We were blessed with great weather, only having rain while on the bus when traveling between some locations. Temperatures in the upper 60’s and lower 70’s couldn’t have been better. As the tour was billed the “Steps of Martin Luther”, obviously most sites visited were connected with his life and thus Lutheran history. However, other locations were also included i.e Berlin, Munich, Neuschwanstein, etc. and Oberammergau. This is where the famous “Passion Play” was first started (1634) and has been held every 10 years since with one exception in 1940 because of WWII. We attended and what a fantastic production!!
As most of the locations were located in the former East Germany, we found that speaking English is not as common as Western Germany. Thus the last year of our efforts in learning and brushing up on some German actually paid off. We now want to continue to learn more of the language and use it between ourselves.
We had thought that upon our return from the trip we would finally make it to the lake. But unfortunately, those plans have needed to be adjusted. My mother’s sudden passing has placed us in Windom staying with my father, probably throughout the summer and fall season, while he adjusts and family affairs are put in order.
So come with us as we begin our “tour”. After more than 2000 pictures, we have picked a few to share with you at each location visited. We hope you enjoy. We have decided that someday we want to return and see more. We would also encourage anyone, if you have the opportunity to take such a trip, do it!!
