The Billings' Great Alaska Safari |

Welcome to my trip journal!
I've decided to try my hand at a web site so you can follow our journey to Alaska. My journal will be posted daily with updates on our progress. I can also post pictures every day so you can see the beautiful world we are traveling through and follow our progress on the maps.
We started our trip to Alaska with some trepidation. The roads are not always good and many are quite isolated. But we decided it was now or never. We aren't getting any younger and senior moments are more frequent.
Lewis will do most of the driving while I try to keep us on the correct roads. Our GPS system only covers the lower 48 states, so we are entirely on our own. This can sometimes be a little scary when your rig is as big as ours. You can't back up when you are towing a car, it is almost impossible to make u-turns, and we also have to worry about the height of bridges and overpasses (we are 14 feet tall).
Although we began our trip north in California, the actual jumping off point for the Alaska Highway is Dawson Creek, British Columbia. So that's where I will start my journal - Mile 0. Hope you enjoy our trip.
