STORY: 'Rain, Rain, Go Away!'

By Carol and Jim Tyson

Monday morning, rain and all, we packed up the Jeep and headed north. In spite of giant raindrops that dived like paratroopers, smashing and splattering against the windshield, we drove all the way to Campbell River -- 93 miles.

Campbell River is a fair-sized industrial town (pulp mills) mid-way up the Island's Eastern coast. From the looks of store-fronts, I'd say it's rich in fishing resources. From fishing bait to fish-n-chips to fine fish dinners, it's everything the fresh-fish lover could possibly want. Too bad it's so far from Nanaimo - too far to pick up our dinner on a daily basis. And we'd packed a sack lunch, so no fish for lunch! more...

The Icefields Parkway between Jasper and Lake Louise in Alberta is one of the great drives of the world. Magnificent scenery waits around every turn no matter what season you choose to travel.

The area is also a fantastic natural playground, with innumerable hikes to make, peaks to climb, lakes to paddle, and of course, the great Wapta Icefields and other glaciers to explore. Although the vast majority of visitors and outdoor recreationalists visit the area in the late spring, summer, and early fall, the winter and early spring also provide frosty beauty and exceptional skiing and snowshoeing opportunities. more...

Riding together on their BMW F650GS Dakar (seen above) - an adventure-touring bike

Bill and Janine on Traveling by Motorcycle:

"Traveling by motorcycle gives you the full experience - you can feel and smell (and sometimes taste) the places you are traveling through - a much different experience for the senses than trains, planes or automobiles.

Our way of travel is not for everyone. You need to be self sufficient and resourceful as there is no "roadside assistance" handy in many of the places we explore. The weather does not always cooperate and you need to be very good at packing light. For us it is the perfect way to travel"

Latest Adventure:

An excursion to Merritt, BC which took them through the Canadian Rockies by motorcycle.
