We came into Campbellton, New Brunswick along the Matapedia River valley - staring across the river at the amazing Sugarloaf Mountain. We were thrilled to cross over into New Brunswick as, despite the adventure we had with trying to get along with the French language in Quebec, we were craving some English conversation. This goes to show how unaware we Westerners are about our country.

The Acadian Coast (and much more of New Brunswick) is VERY French and though signs were bilingual for the most part, many people spoke only French. We are now very used to looking for Épicerie or Boulangerie, Fromagerie, Buanderie, Piscine and Station de Vidange. How many of those did you get?

There are two ways to get to Newfoundland – by “short” ferry or “long” ferry.  Taking the trip overnight, you arrive at Port-Aux-Basques very early in the morning, and as the sun rises over the stark landscape, a glimpse of Newfoundland’s rugged beauty is revealed.  Like its landscapes, Newfoundland’s people are an open, welcoming and unique. If you have your own laptop and a flash memory stick, you can speed up considerably the process of updating your site from an internet café.

Here are some suggested steps:

1. On your laptop, make a separate folder for each entry - this will contain the entry text and related photos and video clips.

2. Write the entry using a text editor (MS Word or NotePad for
example) and save it as a text file inside the folder.

3. Select the photos you want to include and pre-optimize them for the Internet. This dramatically reduces the time for uploading. See our Image Preparation Guide for instructions.

4. Copy the folder(s) containing text and photos to your memory stick.

At the Internet café, plug the memory stick into the USB port and log into your MyTripJournal Update Center. You can then open the text file and copy and paste it into your entry and upload the photos in the usual way.
