I knew it had been far too long since my last proper trip when I kept finding myself staring at maps, daydreaming about the possibilities. "Something fairly simple", I told myself, "not too ambitious. Ease yourself gently back into the travelling scene."

So, taking my inspiration from Girlguiding's Centenary Stampede (when teams of Senior Section members were challenged to visit 5 European countries in 10 days), I started playing around with the idea of travelling overland from the Baltic to the Adriatic over the course of 3 weeks. I just wasn't feeling that spark of inspiration about it though - until I shifted my focus to the Balkans. So here I am...
