Our adventure begins Sept. 6th 2004 when we meet in Seattle to fly to St. Petersburg, Russia. Group includes: Bonnie Leifer (ex officio leader & primary organizer), husband Tim, son Todd (Florence,MT), sister-in-law Laxmi(Mari) von Hoffmann (Philipsburg,MT), friend and honorary family member Jake Gardner (Alberton, MT), cousin Whitney Williams (Park City, UT), and friend Connee Russo (Malibu,CA).
We will be travelling via the Trans-Siberian RR to Vladavostock(sp?) and on into Mongolia and back to Beijing...scheduled arrival is Oct. 13. Hopefully we will all be adding to this journal along the way, giving our personal and unique input for all to see, read, and respond to.
As I say, this is an adventure for there is be no fixed itinerary beyond Beijing...the group will be deciding day by day, week by week where and when we move along. Tentatively we will travel in China south (to stay ahead of the winter), Nepal, India, SE Asia Cambodia, Laos, Viet Nam, etc., Thailand in what order we don't know or if. Once we have had enuf in this part of the world we have talked of Egypt, Greece, Turkey, and Eastern European countries, heading N. We also would like to end this part of our adventure bicycling through Ireland. If you would like to pop in on our little group anywhere along the way we would welcome you if you are interested in this kind of travel. We go by backpack and local transport (bus, train, boat, truck, feet, camel, elephant, horseback, whatever gets us there-the cheapest way hopefully). We are not into hotels, usually backpacker accomodations, hostels, etc. Being in fairly good physical shape is a must, being patient as well, and accepting of the local ways and adapting to local customs a must!
So come with us on our adventure via internet or in person...we welcome all to see and hear and taste and smell the world we live in with all its warts and wisdom! We are truely One on this planet Earth whether we like it or not, whether we accept it or not. Peace!
