Welcome to our trip journal!
A little history behind our adventure .........
After being around Andrew and seeing how he and his family enjoyed their motor home and taking their 'hotel with them' to different places, my mind clicked and I thought about that being the way to go once I retired, which was in January 2007. My four children (minus 1) thought that we should at least rent an RV and try it out for a month first before we made the plunge. Not desiring to do that, as usual, I moved forward.
I must add that we have been following Linda and Howard Payne from Louisville, Kentucky, who are in their 40's and wrote about their desire to leave corporate America and go full-timing, since 2005. They did all the research regarding financial needs and equipment they purchased to get on the road. They were so thorough educating us and it encouraged us even more that we could swing the new lifestyle. Their wonderful website is: www.rv-dreams.com. They have done so much. Our paths will cross this summer.
We began making plans by selling our home in Jacksonville and selling everything we could not take with us.
Lou talked with Andrew, once again, regarding the truck which would pull our 5th wheel. Fords have always been number one for him, so we bought a 2008 F-450 Ford truck and went ahead and ordered the RV we wanted, which was a 37' NuWa Hitchhiker, Champagne Edition, 5th wheel. It would take six weeks to build. Lou had done a lot of research before finding this RV and when we went to the Tampa RV show to see other RV's, our minds were made up and we stuck with what we thought was the best for us ... never being regretful for one second!
The truck came in before we left Jacksonville. We loaded the U-Haul and headed to Justin, Texas, to Andrew's home in the country. While hanging out, we decided to go to the NuWa Industries factory in Chanute, Kansas. We were so glad that we did that.
The RV was delivered to the dealer in Cleburne, TX. October 10th. Andrew was so kind to drive it for us to his home and we began loading it up. We took a little weekend trip with Andrew's family after that to see how we would do - we did GREAT!
I am so happy we made this choice of truck, RV and our new adventure, wanting to see the USA and Canada. Our experiences will grow as we move along - very much looking forward to it ..... and most of all, we want our family and friends to share the time with us ..... on the road.
