Stepping Out: Helen & Dan's Excellent Adventure |

Welcome and greetings, friends and family, to the record of our odyssey. The idea of this journey was sparked by friends of ours who embarked on a similar trek across the globe. We eagerly tracked their progress (via the web); we imagined walking the same paths in our own shoes (or boots, as it were). This whimsical notion eventually germinated into a very sober, yet exciting decision to suspend our careers and accept unconventional risks to see some of the world with our own eyes.
That this is the right decision seems so obvious to us now, but at the time we felt as if we stood at the water's edge, facing a large wave--either we would dive through it or let it sweep us back away from the shore. We took a deep breath and dove!
We look forward to relating the story of this trip, the sights we see, the people we meet and the experiences we enjoy (and bemoan) via this website as we travel south and west.
