Stephanie's Summer in China |
|
See left for my very Chinese new haircut... Unfortunately, it does not look nearly as "good" on your average hot, humid, blow-dryer-less day in China.
Being back in the United States never felt so good, or so strange, as it does after a summer in China. The constant high level of noise, the pushing and shoving and chaos of walking down a street, the feeling that you can never completely relax for fear that you're not where you want to be or that you're being taken advantage of, all seem far, far away. But, so do the beautiful scenery, the cheap, amazing meals eaten with chop sticks every single day, the welcoming friends we met, the perpetual Chinese lessons.
I spent nearly 2 months in China, traveling and teaching engineering through the CETI program (China Educational Technology Initiative) at MIT. Now, I'm back in California, where I plan on making frequent trips to San Francisco's Chinatown and to the Chinese grocery store down the street to make me feel like I'm back in China.
