Remy and Holly's Thailand Adventure |
|
This is our third attempt at creating a website to chronicle the preparations and execution of our trip to Thailand. Hopefully this format will be easier for our family and friends to share our journey with us.
Although this site is mainly for us so we can remember all the details, we both hope that you will stop by occasionally to check up on our adventure as we get closer to the date.
It's been 25 years since we took our first, and unfortunately our last tropical holiday. In 1986 we spent 17 days in Waikiki Beach as our pre-wedding honeymoon, and we swore to each other that we’d go back again every five years. Life and circumstances got in the way of doing that but this year we’re changing that.
We thought about Vegas, Cuba, Mexico even Jamaica but somehow none of those places seemed exciting enough to make up for those 25 years. We wanted a challenge and something very foreign and exotic and Thailand seemed to fit the bill.
So, on December 25th we are boarding a plane that will take us to Bangkok. From there, we plan on 24 days on the southern islands soaking up the sun, swimming, elephant trekking, snorkeling, eating cheap Thai food and drinking cheap Thai booze. We’ll celebrate Christmas when we return.
We are doing this “flashpacker” style. A flashpacker is basically a backpacker with a few years of wisdom and some grey hairs. We won’t be staying in 4 star resorts, but we won’t be staying in hostels either. We’ll have a tablet so we can keep everyone updated when we come across areas with free wifi, and of course we'll update this site. We are not even checking luggage on the plane .. just our carry on size backpacks. However, I anticipate having to purchase a bag in Bangkok in order to bring home all the cheap items we buy there.
According to our “countdown” timer on our desktop, at this moment, we have 287 days and 9 hours until December 25th. The more people we talk to and the more time we spend reading and researching on the web, the more our itinerary changes. Hopefully with 287 days left, we will have it somewhat narrowed down by the time we leave.
We’ll update the site as we go along, so please check back often and share our excitement with us.
