We have been married for 37 years and have lived in Southern New Hampshire all of our lives (except for Dan’s stint in the Marines). We’ve travelled up and down the eastern seaboard of the U.S., Canada and the Caribbean and to the western U.S. to visit our two sons at their respective colleges in Montana and Washington. But it was our sons’ world travels during gap years and following college graduations which whetted our appetites to experience cultures different from our own. We want the time to get to know the character, rhythm, and history of foreign countries, towns and neighborhoods around the world.
In 2010, following successful, professional careers we sold our home of 30 years and our accumulated “stuff” and are in the midst of our own “gap” year (or more). The plan is to actively seek out opportunities, lasting 2-3 months, to work, play, and volunteer or otherwise be engaged in the local life.
