Welcome to my trip journal!

“I haven’t been everywhere yet, but it’s on my list.”

I reckon the most rewarding and pleasurable part of travel is to be able to experience everyday things as if for the first time, where almost nothing is so familiar that I take it for granted.
Every day is new and different when travelling, hence back to Europe I go, revisiting a couple of old haunts and including a couple of new places to explore, and of course settling my Wunderlust Gene for another year.

I guess I hate having my life being disrupted by routine, so I tend to travel a lot, not to escape life, but to ensure life does not escape me.

The Plan:

Whilst Cameron cycles and climbs around The Himalayas, I have chosen a more sedate approach to my travels this year, I must be getting 'old' or have already experienced my midlife crisis……

Chilling out in Paris for a few days with a side trip to Bordeaux, and then I shall join Intrepid starting in Paris, on to Tours where we spend a day cycling in the Loire Valley to the Chateau Vilandry, then Sarlat-la-Caneda where we spend a day kayaking down the Dordogne River to see the Chateau de Beynac, another day in Bordeaux to visit the wine museum, we travel to Bagneres de Luchon where we spend a day hiking in the Pyrenees, San Sebastian for an ocean swim and feast of Spanish pintxos (yum), next stop is medieval Segovia and finally to Madrid, an old favourite of mine.

After a few days in Madrid on my own with a side trip to Toledo, I will head over to Porto in Portugal for a few days before meeting up with Lorna.

We will hike the Santiago de Compostela route, both for the second time, however along the Portuguese Coastal Camino route (as opposed to French route) this time. We hope to encounter friendly locals whilst wandering across sandy beaches on the wild Atlantic Coast, fishing villages, forests, vineyards and farms.

The Outcome:

Another opportunity to do things that are not an option back home, meet loads of inspiring people, see things I never imagined would exist, learn what really matters and again to realize how frickin awesome the world is!
