My Aquaponics Adventure

Leah travel blog
Hello! My name is Leah and I graduated a couple of years ago with my B.S. in Biochemistry. I had plans to attend graduate school and get my Masters or PhD but I had trouble deciding what program to choose. I ended up taking a break, interning at Disney, and now I'm back in Arkansas working at Walmart. Needless to say, I had a hard time deciding my future... The time off really gave me time to think about my life and realize that life is short and you can't just work somewhere to get by and pay the bills. A large percentage of your life is spent working.. why waste that time doing something that you don't love.

After much deliberation, I've decided to become and aquaponics farmer. Only problem is.... I've never actually farmed! I've read several articles online and watched some youtube videos but I feel like I need to get some hands on experience before I devote my life (and money) to this endeavor.

I've quickly realized that there's very few aquaponics farms in the country and none that I could find in Arkansas so I'm going to have to do a little traveling :) First, I'm heading up to Milwaukee to the Growing Power facility to tour the greenhouses and attend a workshop. Later, I'm attending a 5 day seminar at Green Acre Organics in Brooksville, FL where I'm supposed to learn everything there is to know about running an aquaponics operation. I have a couple more places in mind but this is my plan so far.

I'm couch surfing as much as I can on these trips so hopefully I'll meet some cool people along the way :)

My adventure begins on March 14th!
